On the reconstruction of media inhomogeneity by inverse wave scattering model

Abstract:
Consider the reconstruction of non-smooth inhomogeneous media embedded in the homogeneous background, which is governed by an inverse acoustic wave scattering problem from scattered field data. We firstly establish the uniqueness for this inverse problem, which provides the theoretical basis for the reconstruction scheme. Then based on the contrast source inversion (CSI) method, we determine the unknown refraction index and the artificial wave sources alternately by a dynamic iterative scheme for minimizing a cost functional with uniformly convex penalty term. The penalty term is allowed to include total variation (TV) term, ensuring the reconstruction quality for both blocky and smooth profiles. Without the necessity of artificial choice for the regularizing parameter, the convergence property of the iterative sequence is rigorously proven. Numerical implementations demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm.
