Abstract:
Goodwillie calculus is a decomposition of a functor into homogeneous parts, generalizing the stabilization process in homotopy theory which corresponds to the linear part in the Taylor series. We will study the Goodwillie tower of the identity functor using chromatic theory, and do some computations at the chromatic level 2. These computations shows that the odd spheres had finite v1 exponents K2-locally, in addition to the classical finite p-exponent properties. This makes us conjecture that chromatic finite exponent phenomenon is a general property for unstable odd spheres.
