Abstract: We demonstrate existence of topologically nontrivial energy minimizing maps of degree ±1 from plane to S^2 in a variational model describing magnetizations in ultrathin ferromagnetic films with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and easy-plane anisotropy. The variational model (bimeron energy) is a perturbation of classic Dirichlet energy. Our strategy is to get a quantitative description for a minimizing sequence by stability of harmonic maps such that the vanishing case can be ruled out in the concentrated compactness argument.
