Abstract: With inverse scattering method, we show the existence of global solutions to the Cauchy problem for the Fokas-Lenells equation under weighed Sobolev initial data without solitons and with solitons. The key techniques are a bijective map between potential and reflection coefficient and a Backlund transformation.
