题 目:Recent progress on hydrodynamic stability and boundary layer theory
摘 要:
The hydrodynamics stability theory is mainly concerned with the transition of fluid motion from laminar to turbulent flow. More than a hundred years ago, Orr and Sommerfeld conceived an approach to account for the transition from laminar to turbulent flow. Although Orr-Sommerfeld approach cannot yield a critical Reynolds number for the stability of plane flows, Tollmien and Schlichting applied this approach to the laminar boundary layer flow, and succeeded to display the stable and unstable states of flow as a function of the Reynolds number and the wavelength of the disturbance. In this talk, I will describe the Orr-Sommerfeld approach and introduce some recent mathematical progress on understanding the transition mechanism and Tollmien-Schlichting waves.
